A 41-year-old New Jersey man is charged with the murder of his girlfriend after he dropped her off at the hospital and fled, authorities announced Friday, Nov. 7.
On Monday, Nov. 3, Toms River police responded to Community Medical Center after Mary O'Connor was dropped off at the hospital by two men, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said. O'Connor was unresponsive, suffering from a brain bleed and showed obvious signs of bruising consistent with being choked, Billhimer said.
Emiliano Davila, who was dating O'Connor was one of the men who dropped her off at the hospital, Billhimer said. Davila had assaulted O'Connor the night before at a motel in Seaside Heights, where she was residing, Billhimer said.
Davila was taken into custody that evening and charged with domestic violence, aggravated assault by way of strangulation, Billhimer said.
O'Connor died on Wednesday, Nov. 5, Billhimer said. A post-mortem medical examination determined she died from blunt force trauma to the head causing a subdural hematoma, Billhimer said.
Davila's charges were upgraded to murder. He remains detained at the Ocean County Jail, Billhimer said.
