Sir Anthony Hopkins has long been revered for the realism he brings to the big screen. Now, he’s being candid about his personal realities in his new memoir, “We Did OK, Kid,” published Nov. 4, 2025.
In conversation with TODAY, the 87-year-old spoke about his life’s biggest regret: his estrangement from his daughter, Abigail, when she was a year old.
At the time, he was in the middle of his decadelong struggle with alcohol use.
“Liquor was beginning to take over my life,” he writes. He eventually came face to face with what he calls “the ugly side of alcoholism.” It turned him into someone unrecognizable — “it brought out a brutal monster side of me,” he adds.
