The White House confirmed on Thursday that former Tennessee House Speaker Glen Casada, and his former chief of staff Cade Cothren, were pardoned by President Donald Trump after they were convicted earlier this year for their roles in a fraud scheme to collect taxpayer dollars using a business founded using a fictitious identity.
The case was brought by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) under former President Joe Biden, whose prosecutors sought more than 10 years in prison for both Casada and Cothren. They were both were found guilty earlier this year, with the former speaker receiving a 3 year sentence, and Cothren a 30 month-sentence to prison. Both men were additionally required to pay fines and spend one year under supervised release upon their conclusion of their prison terms.
