The Arctic freeze that’s set to descend on the U.S. this weekend and continue into next week could shatter cold records going back to the 1800s, the Washington Post reported.
The season’s first outbreak of freezing Arctic air for a time will register as the most unusually cold mass of air on the planet, the Post said.
Freezing air will hit the Plains and Midwest over the coming weekend and will then arrive on the East Coast on Monday.
A total of 155 million people across the country are forecast to undergo freezing conditions through Wednesday of next week.
New record cold days or nights could be seen in as many as 13 states, from Pennsylvania to Florida.
The cold air will also kick off locally heavy snow bands in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York from Monday to Wednesday.
