It's been 10 months since the devastating Eaton and Palisades fires ravaged Southern California, and as fire victims look to return home, some are warning that the areas remain dangerous.
The flames are gone, but they've left behind toxins like asbestos and lead, according to Eaton Fire Residents United.
"New laboratory findings show that thousands of homes still standing after the Eaton Fire remain unsafe due to dangerous toxins and poisonous chemicals, even after supposedly being remediated," the organization said on its website. "Our community cannot afford to ignore the health risks, which are urgent and severe."
EFRU's testing showed asbestos affects more than one-third of homes after cleanup efforts, though lead was much more prevalent, with 96% of homes showing a positive result
