A car explosion that injured seven New York City firefighters was the result of a cigarette butt, officials said.

The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) said the incident occurred on Wednesday evening, Nov. 5, at 955 Westchester Ave. in the Bronx. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they saw a number of vehicles and piles of garbage on fire, the department said.

Then an explosion followed, injuring seven firefighters.
