DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings’ second power-play unit doesn’t get a lot of minutes, but it can be a little more productive.
That’s why coach Todd McLellan has shuffled some parts around, in an effort to get more pucks to the net. Axel Sandin-Pellikka moves from the point to the left flank and Albert Johansson will man the point tonight against the New York Rangers at Little Caesars Arena (7 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network Extra).
“Axe has a really good shot,” McLellan said. “He’s played off that flank over in Sweden, and that unit doesn’t get that many minutes. So, simplifying some things, getting them to think about shooting the puck maybe a little bit more.”
The Red Wings rank ninth in the league on the power play at 22.7 percent and most of the damage has been done by the first unit
