A one-year-old girl has died after being hit by a freight train in the state’s north-west slopes.
The child was walking on Baranbah Street in Baan Baa, 1.5 hours north-west of Tamworth, and part of the Narrabri Shire local government area, on Friday night when she was clipped by the train, NSW Police said.
She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious injuries. She died at hospital shortly afterwards.
The freight train was driven by a 22-year-old man who was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Narrabri Shire Council mayor Darrell Tiemens said the incident was “devastating” for the “beautiful people” of Baan Baa.
