AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - More than 31 million people plan to fly for Thanksgiving, according to Airlines for America.

The busiest travel period runs from Friday, Nov. 21, through Monday, Dec. 1, with Sunday and Monday expected to be the heaviest travel days.

The projection represents an all-time high for Thanksgiving air travel. U.S. carriers expect to fly 2.8 million passengers per day during the holiday period.

The record travel numbers come as the Federal Aviation Administration plans to reduce flights by 10% at 40 of the nation’s busiest airports due to the government shutdow
