Storms are expected across a large part of inland Queensland today, with the Darling Downs region set to cop another weekend of severe weather.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) said unsettled weather across the state was due to a cold front and surface trough combining.

Thunderstorms are likely across a broad area — stretching from the Gulf of Carpentaria and Mount Isa down through the Channel Country and southern interior.

The focus for storm activity today is the Maranoa, Warrego and Darling Downs region.

"We could see severe thunderstorms developing about the Scenic Rim and then through southern parts of the downs, so that does include Toowoomba, Goondiwindi, Texas, Stanthorpe," forecaster Jonathan How said.

"There's the risk of large hail and damaging winds … up to 5 centimetre hai
