Maryland officials announced Thursday that they have filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s administration, accusing it of unlawfully blocking the long-planned relocation of the FBI’s headquarters to Greenbelt, Maryland.

The lawsuit alleges that the Trump administration violated federal law by halting the project and redirecting more than $1 billion in congressionally appropriated funds to renovate the Ronald Reagan Building in downtown Washington instead.

Attorney General Anthony Brown said the state’s lawsuit seeks to stop what he called an “unlawful attempt to sabotage” the FBI headquarters project that had been years in the making.
