The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to cricketer Mohammed Shami after his estranged wife filed a plea seeking an increase in the interim maintenance for herself and their minor daughter.

A bench of Justices Manoj Misra and Ujjal Bhuyan asked Shami to respond to the petition, which challenges two Calcutta High Court orders passed on July 1 and August 25.

The high court had raised the interim maintenance to Rs 1.5 lakh per month
