OXLEY police have uncovered a gun and drugs after stopping to question a driver in a car near Tamworth on Friday night.
Officers were patrolling Manilla when they spotted a car parked on Kanangra Road shortly before 6.30pm on Friday, November 7.
Police stopped and questioned the man behind the wheel of the parked car.
Officers then decided to search the car and discovered a shortened rifle, ammunition, drugs believed to be methylamphetamine, and suspected stolen goods.
Police will allege in court the shortened gun was loaded at the time.
The 20-year-old driver was then arrested on the spot and taken to Tamworth Police Station for questioning, while the goods were seized and taken into evidence bags.
