(WTAJ) -- A federal judge in Rhode Island ordered the Trump administration to provide full federal food benefits to states Thursday, as the federal budget remains overdue amid a prolonged government shutdown.
U.S. District Judge John McConnell issued the order on the 37th day of the federal government shutdown, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. He stated that it is unacceptable to delay further in providing full payments through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which is crucial for millions of Americans.
"Without SNAP funding for the month of November, 16 million children are immediately at risk of going hungry," McConnell said.
