A 38-year-old man in Florida will spend the rest of his days locked up for killing his girlfriend earlier this year, beating and strangling the 50-year-old victim inside of the home they shared because she gave away some of his personal belongings .

Escambia County Circuit Judge John L. Miller on Wednesday ordered Davarius James to serve life in a state correctional facility for the slaying of Claudette Robinson, authorities announced.

Jurors last month deliberated for less than 30 minutes before finding James guilty on one count of second-degree murder in connection with the "brutal beating and strangling attack," the First Judicial State Attorney's Office said in a news release .
