LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. —

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has rescued 47 dogs and charged four people in connection with a dogfighting investigation.

On Wednesday, authorities executed a search warrant at a property in Lancaster, where 21 dogs were found in the backyard and in the woods. A veterinarian, who examined the dogs, saw scarring consistent with dogfighting on 15 dogs. Many of the dogs did not have proper access to water or food. Some dogs did not have proper housing.

According to the arrest warrants, many of the dogs were pit bulls.

Zion Damir Hairston, 22, and Nicos Kendrell Little, 37, were arrested at the home in Lancaster.

10 counts of animal fighting or baiting
