NEW YORK (PIX11) – Over 103,000 Americans are on the national transplant waiting list, according to the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration. Of that number, 90,000 patients alone are desperately waiting for a kidney.

Kidneys are the most needed organ.

Donor Outreach for Veterans (DOVE), a New Jersey-based organization, connects living donors with veterans in need of transplants.

Nicolle Molina Nino said she didn't think twice about donating her kidney to her uncle when tests showed they were a direct match. Her mother's family immigrated from Colombia decades ago, and her uncle Fernando enlisted in the U.S. Military.

He proudly became an Air Force pilot and has been a positive force in Nicolle's life since she was a child.
