LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hundreds of flights were canceled nationwide Friday as reductions caused by the federal government shutdown took effect.
The Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is one of 40 airports nationwide now operating with reduced flight capacity, a change that kicked in Friday. The Federal Aviation Administration reduced flight traffic by 4% and plans to ramp up to 10% a week from now.
So far, 10 flights have been canceled at the airport, most of them headed to major hubs like Charlotte and Chicago. Most of the routes canceled run several times a day, meaning passengers were notified early and were able to rebook.
One woman whose trip to Chicago O’Hare was delayed said she’s grateful she won’t be traveling once the FAA’s 10% cutback is in full swing next week.
