PLYMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) — A massive blade broke off of a wind turbine and fell 300 feet down into a cranberry bog in Plymouth Friday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to Head of the Bay Road after a neighbor reported that one of the wind turbine's three blades was suddenly missing.

Plymouth Fire Chief Neil Foley said firefighters found the detached blade resting in the cranberry bog several hundred feet from the base of the wind turbine.

No one was injured by the falling blade, which is between 75 and 100 feet long.

Since the wind turbine is surrounded by cranberry bogs, Foley said no homes or buildings were "in the immediately vicinity of the fall."

The maintenance company responsible for the wind turbine is still working to determine the cause of the detachment, but explained that
