SPOKANE, Wash. – A house fire near North Dakota Street and North Brownsville Court led the Spokane Fire Department to put a hole through the wall and sent the homeowner to the hospital before the fire was eventually knocked down.
The Spokane Fire Department posted at 12:01 p.m. that it was responding to the house fire.
Spokane Fire Chief Tom Williams said the fire was caused by a pot of food on the stove that had begun to burn.
The homeowner tried to put the fire out with their hands and had to be brought to the hospital, Williams said. Williams said to remember to call 911 and use a pot lid to put out the fire instead of hands.
The house received minimal damage due to the fire, but fire crews put a hole in the wall to ensure the fire didn’t spread, said Williams.
