EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Millions of Americans may receive their food assistance after a federal judge in Rhode Island ordered that Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits must be paid in full.
Those who rely on SNAP did not receive benefits because of the government shutdown.
The Trump administration previously said it would only partially fund SNAP benefits after two federal judges, one in Massachusetts and one in Rhode Island, ruled that the White House must continue to pay using emergency reserve funds.
On Thursday, U.S. District Judge John J. McConnell Jr. ordered that the White House must make the payments in full by Friday.
