WASHINGTON — When UPS Flight 2976 crashed in Louisville Tuesday night, killing at least 13 people, including all three crew members, the heartache was all too familiar to some in the UPS community.

“I can tell you exactly where I was for Flight 6, Flight 1354, now Flight 2976,” said Brian Gaudet, public affairs director for the Independent Pilots Association (IPA) . “It’s burned into your memory and burned into your heart.”

In 2010, UPS Flight 6 crashed in Dubai, killing both pilots, after what investigators determined was a “catastrophic main deck cargo fire.”

Two more crew members died three years later when, according to the National Transportation Safety Board, UPS Flight 1354 from Louisville crashed in Birmingham, Ala., just short of the runway.
