LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - Flags were lowered at the White House this week in honor of former Vice President Dick Cheney , who died Tuesday at age 84; but the prompt to do so — in D.C. and likewise in Nebraska — did not come from the top.
No proclamation was ordered by President Donald Trump, and no such declaration came for Nebraska flags either — even after the lack of it was brought to the Gov. Jim Pillen’s attention during a news conference.
Trump’s press secretary did confirm during her regular briefing on Tuesday that Trump was aware of Cheney’s passing and mentioned that flags had been lowered; but the president has remained mum on the death of the former vice president who had been critical of Trump — a feeling shared in both directions, and puncuated most recently by the endors
