An investigation is underway after a body was found in the Los Angeles River Friday.

Los Angeles police responded to the 2400 block of Hunter Street in downtown L.A. around 11:23 a.m. after a passerby reported spotting the body in the riverbed.

A police air unit was sent to the location before officers were later dispatched to the area to confirm the report.

It’s unclear how long the body had been there as crews worked to safely remove the body from the river.

No further information, including the person’s identity or the cause of death, was released as the case remains under investigation.
