LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Capt. Rich Wartenberg, a UPS pilot who died in a plane crash in Louisville, is being remembered by former neighbors for his kindness and willingness to lend a hand.

Wartenberg, a 57-year-old pilot with UPS and an Air Force reservist, lived with his family on the line between Erlanger and Independence after moving from Middletown in Butler County. Advertisement

Betty Gay Earls fondly recalled Wartenberg's willingness to assist neighbors, saying, "If something was going on in the neighborhood, he'd let me know. And he was just, just a neat neighbor. (He'd say) if you ever need anything, call me, you know."
