FREDERICK — Centennial senior forward Ian Radtke missed the 2022 Class 3A state final against Tuscarora with a broken collarbone. On the bench shortly after the 3-0 defeat, Radtke, then a freshman, told Eagles coach Justin Thomas, “By the time I’m a senior, we’re going to win states.”

Several others echoed a similar sentiment to Thomas over the last several seasons, feeling disappointed after not advancing past the state quarterfinals a year ago.

Friday night at Linganore, facing the same Tuscarora program — only this time in the Class 3A state semifinals — Radtke and his fellow teammates earned the right to try and make good on that premonition.
