The Karnataka government on Friday decided to set the price of sugarcane at Rs 3,300 per tonne. Sugar factories will pay Rs 3,250 per tonne, with the government contributing an additional Rs 50 to bring the total to Rs 3,300 per tonne for farmers, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said.

He further stated that all sugar factory owners have agreed to the new price structure. He urged them to support farmers in distress and requested farmers to withdraw their protest to help maintain law and order. Notably, the cost of harvesting and transportation is not included in this price.

The protest by sugarcane farmers in the State demanding a higher price for their produce entered its eighth day in Belagavi on Thursday.

Siddaramaiah took to X and shared the development through several posts.
