FLAGSTAFF, AZ (AZFamily) — Surrounded by the largest ponderosa pine forest in the world, people in Flagstaff are pretty used to seeing trees. But on Friday, the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree stopped in town, and it’s a sight to be seen.
Sitting at 53 feet tall is the red fir tree from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, named ‘Silver Bell,’ which is this year’s capital Christmas tree.
For 55 years, the U.S. Capitol has received a tree from one of the national forests across the nation . In 2009, Arizona provided a Christmas tree 2009 an 85-foot blue spruce harvested from the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest.
