JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The annual Freedom Fountain observance took place Friday morning in Jacksonville.
The fountain is dedicated to military members who have served in or passed through Onslow County.
It features a center jet symbolizing freedom, three fountainheads representing the three levels of government (federal, state, and local), and 50 bubblers at the rim of the pool symbolizing the 50 states.
At the beginning of the ceremony, students from Dixon High School sang the national anthem.
Retired U.S. Army Colonel Jeanine Jackson then gave the freedom address, while Jacksonville police and firefighters presented the colors.
Residents across the county also brought water from their region to share in the fountain, honoring the diverse geography of the county’s service member
