SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
After voters overwhelmingly approved the measure to gerrymander California's U.S. House Districts to send more Democrats to Congress, Gov. Gavin Newsom plans to rally in Texas and celebrate the Texas Democrats who resisted their state's redistricting push.
President Donald Trump's request to Texas to help him find five more Republicans for the U.S. House of Representatives ahead of the 2026 midterm elections prompted California Democrats to push Proposition 50, which they claim to be a response to election rigging.
While Texas lawmakers approved the redistricting of its congressional lines, California's process required voters to approve the changes with a special election.
