WEBSTER COUNTY, Mo. (KY3) -Webster County is seeing an increase in gun thefts. With hunting season approaching, thieves are targeting firearms.
The sheriff’s office says gun owners should fill out documentation to track serial numbers of their firearms, which could prevent trouble if they become theft targets.
Corporal Austin Rice said most thefts occur when people are away from home, and thieves find guns that are not locked in safes or lock boxes. Guns not secured in vehicles can also be targets for thieves.
Gun owner Jason Radney, who owns Cherokee Firearms, said he has a system for keeping records of his guns so they could be identified more quickly in case of theft.
“When you purchase a firearm from us, as well as many other stores in the area, we will give you a separate receipt
