JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Icemen returned to their home ice Friday night for the highly anticipated season opener at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, drawing a crowd of more than 13,000 fans.
Despite falling 5-2 to the Atlanta Gladiators, the home opener was a night of excitement as fans filled the arena to cheer on their team.
Families of all ages crowded the stands, rocking jerseys and waving blue glow sticks. The Cabot family called the event more than just a hockey game, it was an opportunity to spend quality time together.
"We absolutely love hockey from the north and it's one way we can cheer on our hometown team," the family said.
One highlight of the evening was the Reverb event organized by Word of Life Ministries. Retired Jacksonville police officer Michael Mon
