WESTBROOK, Maine – The Marshwood High School football team stopped four out of five of Westbrook’s second-half possessions inside the Marshwood 20-yard line in a Class B South semifinal on Friday, Nov. 7.
They needed to stop five.
An incredible defensive effort wasn’t enough for fourth-seeded Marshwood to overcome top-seeded Westbrook, as the Blue Blazes scored the game-winning touchdown with just 22 seconds left, and escaped with a 15-12 win. Marshwood finished its season at 6-4, while Westbrook improved to 8-1.
“Defensively, we did a tremendous job all night,” said Marshwood coach Alex Rotsko. “And all of those guys are playing on offense, and they’re playing on special teams. I’m really proud of their effort.”
That effort had Westbrook on its heels most of the game. The Blue Blazes
