The Supreme Court has allowed the Trump administration to temporarily withhold about $4 billion dollars in payments for SNAP benefits.

Federal Judge John McConnell Thursday had ordered the Trump administration to deliver SNAP payments in full to states by Friday. The administration had said that because of the government shutdown there was only enough money to pay partial benefits this month.

The administration turned to the Supreme Court, and Friday night, the Supreme Court provisionally blocked McConnell’s order, allowing, at least temporarily, the Trump administration to not have to pay full SNAP benefits for now.

In her order Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson said a temporary stay was required so that the appeals court can consider the government’s application in full.
