A woman in Bengaluru has come forward with serious allegations against a Rapido bike taxi driver, claiming he harassed her during a ride on November 6. The incident occurred in the city’s central area and was shared widely on social media, drawing attention from both the Bengaluru City Police and Rapido.
In her Instagram post, the woman recounted her experience of booking a ride from Church Street to her paying guest accommodation. She stated that the driver attempted to grab her legs while riding. "It happened so suddenly that I couldn’t even process it, let alone record it," she wrote. Despite her pleas for him to stop, she felt trapped and terrified, as she was unfamiliar with the area and unable to exit the vehicle safely.
Upon reaching her destination, a passerby noticed her distress and intervened. The man confronted the driver, who initially apologized but then allegedly made a threatening gesture before leaving. The woman expressed her determination to raise awareness about such incidents, stating, "No woman should have to go through something like this — not in a cab, not on a bike, not anywhere."
Following her post, the Bengaluru City Police reached out for more information to begin an investigation. Rapido also responded, expressing concern over the driver’s conduct and assuring that they would look into the matter. The woman later updated her followers, confirming that she had filed a formal complaint and that the police were reviewing footage related to the incident.
The incident has sparked discussions online about women's safety in public transport, with many users calling for stricter regulations and accountability for ride-hailing services. The woman’s experience highlights the ongoing issues of harassment faced by women in public spaces, prompting calls for vigilance and support for victims.
