A sitting U.S. president once dined at Gregg's – a Rhode Island foodie staple.

On Halloween in 2014, then-President Barack Obama stopped by the iconic restaurant's Providence location for some Death By Chocolate cake. He was photographed making small talk with customers and joking around with waiters.

Director of operations Rob Bacon said the 44th commander-in-chief's visit took the staff by surprise.

"We were given very little notice, and the entire restaurant had to be secured by the Secret Service team," Bacon said. "No one was allowed to enter or leave for the hour before his arrival until he departed."

Obama entered the establishment with Gina Raimondo, a Rhode Island gubernatorial candidate at the time, and treated her to a turkey club sandwich.
