Employees of the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) this week announced an effort to form a union.

Working with AFSCME Michigan, a state chapter of the national union representing employees at museums across the U.S., including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Detroit Institute of Arts Workers United (DIAWU) is made up of staff from various departments. Their goal, according to a news release , is “building a fair, transparent and respectful workplace that aligns with the values the museum shares with the community.”
