India clinched the T20I series against Australia with a 2-1 victory after the fifth and final match at The Gabba in Brisbane was abandoned due to heavy rain and lightning. The match was called off after just 4.5 overs, with India’s openers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma putting on a solid start of 52 runs without loss. Gill scored 29 not out, hitting six boundaries, while Sharma remained unbeaten on 23.
Despite a sellout crowd waiting for the rain to clear, the weather worsened, leading to the official abandonment of the match after more than two hours of delay. Earlier in the series, the first match in Canberra was also washed out, while Australia won the second T20I in Melbourne by four wickets, thanks to Josh Hazlewood's bowling. India bounced back by winning the third match in Hobart by five wickets and the fourth on the Gold Coast by 48 runs.
Abhishek Sharma was named Player of the Series for his impressive performance, scoring 163 runs at an average of 40.75. India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav praised his team’s resilience, stating, "The way everybody chipped in in every game and we came back from being one match down, I think credit goes to all the boys; a complete team effort."
With this series win, India, currently ranked first in T20Is, heads home with renewed confidence ahead of the T20 World Cup they will co-host with Sri Lanka next year. Australia’s captain Mitch Marsh acknowledged the competitive nature of the series, saying, "India won the games when it mattered, so congratulations to them." The focus now shifts for Australia towards the upcoming Ashes series against England, while India prepares for a two-Test series against South Africa starting November 14 in Kolkata.
