Labor Party members have sent the Cook Government a clear signal they want a fracking ban extended to all parts of WA.
At a State conference meeting in Fremantle on Saturday, a new clause inserted in the party’s conservation, environment and climate change platform — that fracking be banned throughout 100 per cent of the State — was passed.
It’s understood the AWU and the Progressive Labor faction did not support the clause.
Currently, the fracking ban extends to 98 per cent of WA, with the fracking still allowed in parts of the Kimberley and the Mid West.
Although the clause was passed, any changes to WA’s fracking laws would need to be passed by the WA Parliament.
