Ever since John Cena’s 2025 retirement tour was announced, fans have fantasized about the prospect of former rival Adam Copeland, known as Edge in WWE , returning to WWE to face him. When Copeland revealed on AEW programming that he was taking an absence and wasn’t sure if he’d be back, many fans began speculating on him facing Cena, despite him being under AEW contract.

It has been a long time since any form of deal was made between WWE and AEW. In the past, things had been worked out regarding Billy Gunn appearing at the WWE Hall Of Fame, Bryan Danielson giving kind words in a John Cena tribute show, and Chris Jericho appearing on Steve Austin’s podcast on the WWE Network. However, there has been nothing for a while as heat between the two sides grew.
