WASHINGTON —
Millions of people relying on SNAP benefits face mounting uncertainty after the Supreme Court paused full payments for now, while flight disruptions continue to pile up during the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
The Federal Aviation Administration ordered reduced service at 40 airports across the country. More than 1,000 flights were canceled as those restrictions started to take effect on Friday, frustrating travelers across the country.
Those disruptions are expected to grow in the coming week. The FAA's order to slash domestic flights will gradually scale up, from 4% on Friday to 10% by Nov. 14.
Officials say the goal is to relieve pressure on air traffic controllers. Some are calling out sick as they continue to go without pay.
