An investigation is underway in Tampa following a crash that left multiple people dead, authorities said.

According to Tampa Police, at around 12 a.m., officers were monitoring a vehicle on Interstate 275 as it continued to drive recklessly at a high rate of speed.

Police said that the same vehicle was seen earlier street racing on Hillsborough Avenue near 22nd Street.

As the vehicle was being monitored by air services, officers and troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol found the vehicle in the area of Palm Avenue and Nebraska Avenue, and troopers began following it and performed a PIT maneuver, which was unsuccessful.

Authorities said that the vehicle continued to travel at a high rate of speed toward Nebraska Avenue and continued going eastbound on Seventh Avenue.
