It wasn’t an easy choice, but a massive swamp white oak (Quercus alba) has been selected as the ‘Best Tree in Chatham-Kent’ for 2025.
The inaugural contest, organized by NatureCK, received “many beautiful photo submissions from all over Chatham-Kent,” said the group in a media release.
The submissions were accompanied by wonderful heartfelt stories of family memories, history and personal connections with their nominees.
“Choosing a winner was not an easy task – every tree had its own qualities and attributes which made it a contender,” said NatureCK.
The judges considered several attributes before coming to their decision – the tree’s age, size, historical value, species importance, esthetic appeal, community connection, and personal significance were all factors, NatureCK added.
