In record-breaking heat, Arizona college students collected street-level data to help communities combat the state's top weather-related killer.

More than 150 students from the University of Arizona, Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University spent the summer gathering fine-grained data on how extreme heat plays out across neighborhoods, streets and homes. Their work is part of the Southwest Urban Integrated Field Laboratory, or SW-IFL, a Department of Energy-funded project aimed at helping Arizona cities develop evidence-based heat resilience strategies.
