The Peoria Police Department has received a grant for $178,396 from the Arizona Department of Public Safety to fund the victim assistance program.
The department wants to continue participation in DPS's Victims of Crime Act grant program, and this grant will allow for it, giving direct support services to victims of crime.
The grant will fund two full-time city employees, to include salary and benefits, for a full year. The funding will also allow the renewal of a victim assistance software program and will provide emergency victim assistance supplies and services when needed, according to a staff report.
The grant will fund the program through Sept.30, 2026.
The staff report said that funded personnel will provide crisis intervention, support, and follow-up referrals to crime victims.
