In light of an acute water crisis in Iran, the water supply is to be temporarily shut off in the evening hours until the morning, particularly in the capital city Tehran.

"We are forced to cut off the water supply for citizens on some evenings so that the reservoirs can refill," Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi was quoted as saying by the ISNA news agency on Saturday.

Additionally, he said that a significant reduction in water pressure is to be expected.

The population should therefore install water containers and pumps to compensate for the supply gaps, the minister said.

Water has already been cut off in the evenings until the next morning in several districts of Tehran.

Storing water has become part of everyday life, especially for toilet flushing.
