Have you ever wondered what it takes to prepare a bowls green for an Australian championships?

Well, for the past 11 months, Craig Walker and his team at the Devonport Country Club have been doing just that.

"We started just after Christmas with our plans, we shut [the greens] early to renovate them, and we didn't hold any finals last year," Walker said.

"It's been a tough preparation with the weather; the growth has been very slow this year compared to others.

"But, if we get some sun and some wind, they'll be as good as we want them. They're right where we want them at the moment, but we're just praying we don't get too much more rain."

The North-West Coast will be inundated with the country's best bowlers this week, with nationals set to get underway on Monday, November 10.
