When heading west on 9th Street on the one way toward 23rd Avenue, take some time. Slow down. And definitely keep an eye on the left side of the road.

Just past 16th Avenue, 30-year-old Greeley artist Alonzo Harrison has added a little color to the drive with a mural at the Bargain Box Thrift Store, 1706 9th St.

On Friday afternoon, The Bargain Box hosted a dedication for the mural — a vaquera, or Mexican cowgirl — sitting proudly on a horse in front of a Colorado sunset.

“It’s super awesome,” Harrison said. “You always hope that, doing this type of work, you can have hyper-visible pieces. And my grandparents live just a few blocks down from it, so it fills me with a sense of pride. I’m thrilled about it.”
