DESOTO, Texas — One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash that closed the southbound lanes of part of I-35E in DeSoto for hours early Saturday, officials say.

Officers were called to the crash in the 1400 block of North I-35E around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a social media post by the DeSoto Police Department .

The incident started when a single-vehicle crash caused a 26-year-old Wilmer man's van to be flipped onto its side within the lanes of traffic, officials say. After that crash, the man was able to crawl out of his van and was standing on the highway when he was hit by a second vehicle and fatally injured, police said.
