SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Public Library warns its services may be modified if city funding doesn't come through next year.

The city reduced library funding by 5% this year, and next year's proposed budget keeps that reduction in place. If that budget goes through, Adam Chanse, the library executive director, said the library will be forced to cut back services and hours.

The City of Spokane provides 82% of the library's budget through its general fund, Chanse said.

To maintain current levels of service, the Library Board of Trustees is asking the city council for an increased allocation of 15%. That increase will make up for this year's 5% reduction and fund promised 2026 services.
